Aberdeen City Archives: Collects and preserves historical records relating to the City of Aberdeen and its locality, with some holdings relating to the oil industry.
Aberdeen Maritime Museum: This award-winning museum houses a unique collection covering shipbuilding, fast sailing ships, fishing and port history, and is the only place in the UK where you can see permanent displays on the offshore oil and gas industry.
BP Archive: A corporate facility now incorporating the Castrol archive, which documents the history of BP, its predecessors and subsidiaries through a collection of original materials, including company magazines, annual reports, photographs, advertisements and official documents. The Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy: CEPMLP at the University of Dundee is a renowned graduate school with focus on international business transactions, natural resources and energy law and policy.
Dukes Wood Oil Museum: A museum and nature reserve on the site of the UK’s first onshore oil field. It holds many artefacts and pictures about UK Oil fields, both offshore and onshore, and provides comprehensive information on all aspects of oil exploration and production.
Ekofisk Industrial Heritage Project: The Ekofisk Industrial Heritage web site provides an insight into the development of the Ekofisk Field in the Norwegian North Sea from 1962-98. The majority of this site is Norwegian-language only.
Grampian Information Oil Group: Information Services personnel or librarians employed by various oil and gas operators and contractors in the North East of Scotland.
National Gas Archive: Maintained by the National Grid, it holds records covering the history and development of the UK gas industry from about 1812 to the present day. This includes many of the administrative, financial, legal, technical, property and personnel records.
National Gas Museum: The Museum preserves the knowledge and skills of the industry during the twentieth century and is one of the largest, most representative and significant holdings of material relating to the gas industry.
Norwegian Petroleum Museum: The Museum is dedicated to one of Norway’s most important industries with exhibitions relating to science, technology and history. Its website is available in English, and for those unable to travel to Stavanger, the virtual tour is available here.
Oil and Gas UK: Formerly UKOOA (the UK Offshore Operators Association), the leading representative organisation for the UK offshore oil and gas industry. Its members are companies licensed by the Government to explore for and produce oil and gas in UK waters and those who form any part of the industry's supply chain. Its website is a particularly good source of information on the offshore industry.
OilCity: Wiki-style website where users submit their personal experiences and knowledge of working in the North Sea oil and gas industry, for the future benefit of the industry and to provide a valuable historical record.
Postgraduate Courses: The University of Aberdeen offers a variety of degree programmes that are industry-centred, and many more provide industry-related modules.
The National Archives: The National repository for the UK central government, it holds the records transferred from BERR and its predecessor departments, the Department of Trade & Industry and the Department of Energy, both of which were responsible for regulating the oil and gas industry.
UK Oil and Gas Energy Reports 1998 – 2001 (‘The Brown Book’): Online copies of the last four ‘Brown Books’, the annual report on the development of the oil and gas resources of the United Kingdom.
Digital Energy Atlas & Library (DEAL): A national catalogue of geoscience data concerning exploration and production of hydrocarbons on the UKCS (United Kingdom Continental Shelf).
British Geological Survey: Home of the National Hydrocarbons Data Archive, holding information relating to geoscience and production/reservoirs from UK offshore oil and gas exploration and production activity, which is required to be stored in perpetuity.
Oil & Gas Portal: Focus for information relating to a variety of oil and gas activities, from production to supply, and including regulatory and environmental guidance. Operated by BERR.
